Blum Soft-Close Technology: Hinges, Drawers & Lift Systems

Soft close slows a cabinet door, drawer or lift front as it reaches the closed position. For Blum hardware, BLUMOTION may be built into a particular hinge, runner or lift mechanism, or supplied as a separately specified device. Which parts you need depends on the exact system, not simply on whether the cabinet has a door or drawer.

How does Blum soft close work?

A damping mechanism moderates the final part of the closing movement. That reduces the sharp impact and noise of slamming. It does not make all hinges, runners and lift parts interchangeable. Check each product's article number, application and fitting instructions before selecting a damper or other component.

Where can you use it?

Cabinet doors

Choose a hinge by door overlay, thickness, opening angle, cup drilling and mounting plate first. Then check whether the hinge includes BLUMOTION or needs a compatible separate device. Explore Blum CLIP top hinges, mounting plates and BLUMOTION hinge devices as separate product ranges.

Drawers

Drawer runners vary by load capacity, nominal length and motion technology. The MOVENTO BLUMOTION runner range lists soft-close configurations. Other drawer systems have their own specified runners and parts, so choose all fittings for the same drawer build.

Lift fronts

AVENTOS lift systems support upward-opening cabinet fronts. Compare AVENTOS HK top, HS top and HL top by front movement and the exact fitting requirements. A lift mechanism, cover and fixing part are not substitutes for one another.

What are the benefits?

Soft close can make busy kitchens and shared spaces quieter and reduce the impact at the end of each closing cycle. It can help avoid the repeated knocks associated with slamming, but it does not replace correct installation, adjustment or sensible load selection. For a reliable result, match the mechanism to the cabinet and follow the instructions for its specific article number.

Soft close versus push to open

A soft-closing mechanism controls closure; push-to-open provides a way to open a handleless front. They are not the same feature. Some configurations combine the two, but a separately specified opening unit should not be added to a runner or hinge without checking compatibility. See the TIP-ON BLUMOTION components guide for compatible drawer applications.
